FAQ
An ESS – Energy Storage Solution – is a system which allows you to harvest and store energy within a battery for use as and when you need it.
The energy can be harvested from a renewable source, such as the sun via a solar panel kit, or taken from the grid during off-peak tariff times when energy costs are lower.
The core benefits of a home Energy Storage Solution include reduced reliance on the grid, lower energy costs, and the reassurance of a backup power supply to tide you over should you experience a power network outage. What’s more, if you are harvesting renewable energy using a solar panel kit, then you’ll also be reducing your carbon footprint and could even become completely self-reliant from the grid.
You will of course need to weigh up the potential savings against the initial investment in the equipment. However, the reduced energy costs over time will generally give you a healthy return, making the investment worthwhile.
The most basic ESS kit consists of an inverter, batteries and a method of charging the batteries. One of the most popular charging methods is an inverter/charger.
An inverter allows you to convert the energy stored in the batteries to a usable 230 volts, whereas an inverter/charger will also allow you to charge the batteries from the mains power.
All ESS and solar panel kits sold by BMS Technologies are professionally mounted on fireproof board and supplied with industry leading lithium batteries.
All you need to do is connect the kit to the mains, and mount and connect the included solar panels.
An ESS allows you to build up energy for later use. You can take that energy from the grid during cheaper tariff times and then use it to power appliances during peak times, without having to pay the higher rates. Or you can harvest the energy from the sun using a solar panel kit, and use it as green energy later in the day when the sun has gone down and the panels are no longer generating energy.
You can also use the energy you’ve stored in your batteries to get you through the inconvenience of a power outage or planned blackout.
The battery size and kit components you need will depend on your current energy use and the size of your energy generation system. You may want to think about future energy use too, for example if you are planning on buying an electric vehicle, or switching to a heat pump system for home heating.
If you are unsure what to buy, the technical experts here at BMS Technologies are on hand to provide all the advice you need to make the choices that best suit your needs. And if we don’t have a kit that works for you, we’ll happily compile one bespoke to your requirements.
