FAQ

To understand which size inverter you require, you will need to work out the wattage to match your requirements. To do this, you will need to add up the wattage of each 230V appliance you want to use, and find out their rated power draw. Usually the item manual will provide the wattage draw.

It’s likely you’ll want to use more than one appliance at a time. It is therefore important to factor the total wattage into your inverter calculations.

Example:

If you have a laptop which is 60W, a TV which is 51W, and a coffee machine which is 1400W, then your maximum power usage would be 1511W.

Once you’ve added up the total appliance wattage, add 20%. This will tell you the minimum size inverter you’ll require.

It is important to note that Victron Energy rate their inverters in Volt Amps (VA). The datasheets do also state the wattage of each inverter.

An inverter charger forms a key component in any Energy Storage System (ESS).

The inverter supplies battery-powered energy to get you through those times when the grid has gone down, or you want to purposely go off-grid to take advantage of low cost tariffs.

The charger connects the inverter to an AC power source so that the batteries are continuously charged whilst the power is available. Even where a system is primarily connected to harvest power from solar panels, the inverter charger provides that added freedom of being able to connect to the grid anytime.

As well as making excellent Uninterrupted Power Supplies, ideal for both commercial and domestic use, inverter chargers are also commonly used with remote power systems, as they can automatically start a generator if the battery bank gets low.

Victron inverter chargers are built with pure sine wave inverters.

A pure sine wave inverter generates a waveform that is more in line with the smooth, regular waveform delivered by the grid. Modified sine waves or quaisi sine waves tend to be lumpy and uneven in comparison, resulting in sharp variations in voltage levels.

Pure sine wave inverters assist in reducing electrical noise, overheating and electrical component damage.

A pure sine wave inverter is more efficient than a square wave or quaisi sine wave inverter when converting DC to AC. This added efficiency ensures that power loss is kept to a minimum, which puts less pressure on your grid consumption.

If you need high quality, stable power that you can rely on, particularly if you are running medical equipment, appliances with motors such as refrigerators, sensitive electronics or a leisure vehicle, then a pure sine wave inverter is a must.

Victron inverter chargers are able to withstand extreme environments and unreliable power supplies. They charge rapidly, offer a good service and battery life, and are portable, robust and lightweight.

They also come with a 5-year warranty and, when you buy through BMS Technologies, free technical support is included as standard.

It is possible to combine a Victron inverter charger with a Cerbo Gx (also available from BMS), giving you control over your system wherever you are, as well as maximising performance.

Simply connect through the Victron Remote Management (VRM) portal, or access directly via Bluetooth where system compatibility allows.

Using Bluetooth, you can access your system remotely using the VictronConnect app or, if you have an internet connection to the Cerbo GX, you can access your system using the Victron VRM portal online.
